WordPress Statistics
by Edwin on Feb.19, 2009, under Blogging
On a couple of other websites I used Statcounter, a free utility to keep score of your visitors. However for WordPress I just installed Wordpres.com Stats. Installation is a breeze, with the automatic installation feature for plug-ins. After copying pasting the API key, which you have to obtain from WordPress.com , Bob should be your uncle.
Let’s wait and see…
[update]
No, a little problem has occured. Althought it says somewhere “Just a note: we don’t count your own visits to your blog.”, it does seem to count them. And it looks like I’m not the only one.
I remember from StatCounter you could easily block your own visits from being tracked. If they only had a StatCounter/WordPress solution on the shelf…
Ha! They do! Check this out.
Just fyi a pic from Statcounter, showing you can easily block out your own visits:

Installing Statcounter now..

You do not have permission to preview drafts
by Edwin on Feb.12, 2009, under Blogging
Vloek! Before publishing I just wanted to see what it looked like and there I pressed the Preview button. Error message: You do not have permission to preview drafts. (I am using WP 2.7.1 and MySQL 5)
The last change I had made to the system was changing the blog url path, because I wanted the website to say www.notgeeky.com and not notgeeky.com.

Blog Address
The preview mode still prefers the old address though. So by taking away the www. (on the url with the error message) you can still see your preview.
Update:
It looks like it might be something else. Just a couple of minutes I tried to reproduce the problem in Internet Explorer (I normally use FireFox), and everything worked just fine!
So perhaps it’s a browser related issue…
[Update]
Note: sometimes it gives a different error message:
Sorry, but you are looking for something that isn’t here. You can search again by using this form…
But the cure (that is temp fix) is still the same.

Just Started Blogging(part 2)
by Edwin on Feb.12, 2009, under Blogging
Really pleased with the first results.
I found a plug-in that allows you to encapsulate YouTube video, Smart YouTube, and that seems to work just fine. The Blog looks way better than the original WordPress theme. I might spend some time on finding an even better one. Better be careful though. Already managed to get completely rid of all the formatting…….
But still so many unanswered questions!
So you have Tags and Categories. Am I going to make my Nokia N810 a Category or a Tag?
What was the password of the mySQL database again?
How do I transfer the ownership of an article from one person to another.
How about Britney Spears?
Will the PW videos be removed because of the copyrights?
What if I run out of ideas?
What if this website will only cost me money?
Why do my permalinks not work?
Should I have widgets?
How do I get rid of “Visit our friends!”
How can see the comments on the same page as the posting (without first having to click)?
How can I have one posting per page?
Help!?!

Just Started Blogging
by Edwin on Feb.11, 2009, under Blogging
As you might have noticed I just started this Blog and I if you’ll ever come back to my Blog I have to warn you: It’s not just going to be about one topic. I know it scares people off and that you should stick to one theme but I won’t, can’t, shouldn’t (cause it kills creativity).
I’ve installed Wordpress 3 times now (cause I messed something up every time I did it), and selected 3 different WP themes (for now I’ll stick to an old fashioned dark one).
And why? Make a little extra money? (credit crises and all) Share my thoughts with the rest of the world? Don’t know really. I guess it’s because I never had my own diary as a kid (cause it’s girlish) and now trying to compensate.
Enjoy reading (and watching)!
